SIGDA University Booth: Information for Demonstrators

Thanks for participating in the University Booth.  I will try to keep this page up-to-date with any information that demonstrators will need.  Please email me at pmadden@cs.binghamton.edu if you have questions; I (Patrick H. Madden) will be staying at the Hilton, and you can find me there when you get to Las Vegas.  I'll be arriving on the 14th.

Posters

We will supply poster board, tape, markers, glue, and other things like that.  Please bring the materials you'll need to put the poster together.  We will get supplies in Las Vegas: chances are good that the boards will be either 2 feet by 3 feet, or 2.5 x 3.5.  PLEASE KEEP YOUR POSTER TO A REASONABLE SIZE!  We have many groups demonstrating, and space for hanging posters is limited.

We would recommend keeping the posters very simple.  DAC is a bit like a circus, and you're not going to be able to hold anyones attention for a 20 minute talk.  Keep your demos simple as well; if you can explain your idea in 60 seconds are less, you have a good chance at catching someones attention for longer.  Remember that you will be competing with large companies giving away t-shirts and coffee mugs!  You may want to bring copies of relevant papers to hand out.

Badges

Your name will be on an "exhibitor badge," which will allow you to go onto the exhibition floor prior to the show opening.  There should be a reception desk that is easy to find, and they'll have the badges.

Set Up

Normally, the hours before the show opens, the University Booth is very busy.  We will have the machines running
on Sunday, and early Monday morning--if you need to install software, you might be able to do it then.  Be aware that
there will be 7 other groups who will use the machine, so you will not have a lot of time to do setup.  If your software
can be installed quickly, we would recommend doing it during your first scheduled demonstration.

Travel Grants

For those of you who have received travel support, KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS.  Here is information from Cheng-Kok Koh:
The grant will be awarded as a reimbursement after
receipts are submitted.  At the end of your trip, please
send me:

   (1) Original receipts of those expenses covered by the
grant.  If the airfare is covered by the grant, please
submit the passenger ticket and ticket stubs of your
boarding passes.

   (2) A summary/spread sheet that itemizes the expenses.
The expense summary should also provide your name, your
social security number (if applicable), and your work and
home addresses.  Please indicate the address to which
ACM/SIGDA should send the check.  If you are not residing
in the US, we prefer to reimburse you by directly
depositing the grant into your bank account.  You should
provide your bank account information if that is the case.

Miscellaneous

The schedule has been revised; some groups could be placed on either Solaris or Windows stations, and that has allowed us to simplify the station setup.  We will have Internet access, and there will be a single ethernet connection for use by booth participants (this will be in the conference cubicle, and please try to keep your time short, as you'll be sharing this with everyone else).  The conference cubicle can be used to store books and bags, but please try to keep this neat, and don't leave anything valuable there!

There are also a few open slots; let me know if you're interested in having a second demo during one  of the
open times.

The exhibition ends at 6pm on Wednesday; tear-down of the booth happens VERY shortly after that, so be sure to pick up any materials that you want to keep immediately.
